Dr. Margarette J Shegog
Both Tired & A Doctor
As one of the hosts of Tired Doctors Talking Margarette J Shegog (MD MPH) is both Tired and a Doctor. She practices full scope Family medicine (Clinic, Hospital, OB) in rural California. To better serve her patients she completed a fellowship in Behavioral Health & Psychiatry. She fully believes that the word doctor means to teach and enjoys teaching her patients and future practitioners about healthcare.
Margarette is originally from Cincinnati, Ohio. She has spent many years trying (and finally succeeding) in escaping that state. Starting with her Apple 2C she is a lifelong computer gamer and a newer tabletop gamer (although she has played D&D since age 7). Margarette attended Emory University where she completed a double major in Neuroscience & Behavioral Biology and Cultural Anthropology. She almost completed a minor in dance and continued to dance and find dance classes throughout her travels. Though she had aspirations of medicine since age 6, she was warned by her father and older sister of the long, hard road to becoming an MD. She sought out other ways to examine health and culture through service as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Namibia and an America-India Service Corps Volunteer in Kolkata.
Service solidified Margarette’s need to not just prevent disease but also be able to treat it. She received her MPH from Ohio State University in Epidemiology and Health Behavior & Promotion and her MD from Wright State University Boonshoft School of Medicine before escaping Ohio again for Residency, Fellowship and Practice. Now living on the West (Best) Coast she enjoys the natural beauty of the coast and Redwood forest, her partner, cat, and gaming -- when she is not too tired from doctoring.
